Location of the hotel was perfect for site seeing in Derry. Loved that it's a historic boutique hotel. Staff were friendly and accommodating - even had prosecco for us at check in. Our room was clean and comfy. Inexpensive public parking is a short distance away, but lot does fill up.
Real cool boutique hotel in the heart of Londonderry. The rooms are in the small side but modern and comfortable. Staff were without doubt the most welcoming and attentive I have encountered. We were created with a glass of Prosecco and received great advice and pleasant conversation from everyone we encountered. Highly recommended!
Over all Excellent! The Guildhall room was outstanding. The evening meal was beautiful and the service was excellent, however, the service and food at breakfast was disappointing and this was the same experience the last time we stayed.
The receptionist Jane and Amanda were both very pleasant!
Love love love this place. Cute little hotel with much to do around. The staff was the nicest I’ve come across. Room was lovely, ac worked great, bed was comfortable, shower was hot! I wish we had more time here. Thank you, Shipquay!
What an absolutely amazing evening. Food 5*, service amazing never rushed or looking over shoulders extremely lovely polite and lovely. Would I recommend this restaurant absolutely
When in Derry/Londonderry, I always hang my hat in the Shipquay Boutique - apart from being a stunning hotel, the staff make it the best, and every stay worthwhile! From check-in, the reception staff were welcoming and resolved a personal request about my room...Top class! Even a complimentary glass of Prosecco ! Thanks guys and see you soon :-)
Just had the best weekend here at Shipquay. Everything was 1st class from we arrived. The staff are amazing and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The food is on another level, tasty and delicious. The location is perfect central to everything. Honestly couldn’t find fault with this wonderful hotel. This was our first time staying here but it certainly won’t be our last!!! Thanks to all the staff for making our weekend so memorable 10/10
The Good:
Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Cheese plate was very nice - note they serve it in the bar
Staff kindly notified us that we left a couple plush kids toys in the room and went out of their way to mail them to our house.
Location is really nice right in the walled section of Derry.
The Meh:
Parking is off site...we were lucky enough to get a spot at the lot just outside the wall. It was fun for us to roll the bags up the steep hill but could present a big issue for others. You have the option to drop your bags at the front but that would be blocking traffic on a somewhat busy street.
Due to seating constraints you have to reserve times for prepaid dinner as well as breakfast. We were unsure what time we were going to arrive so didn't do this ahead of time. When we arrived the first available time was 8:30pm so we ended up bailing on dinner as that was too late for my child. Fortunately we had eaten enough on the cheese plate. We ended up missing our breakfast time as well due to sleeping in after a somewhat restless night of sleep.
The rooms are very unique with necessary architectural features like columns in the middle of the compact room. Not a deal breaker but should be noted.
The bad:
Many booking sites list AC. (Not on the hotel website) This was not the case. There was an oscillating fan in the room. It was cool enough outside to help but the room was still warm. The noise from the bars at the bottom of the hill plus cars due to having an open window was enough to keep my family up late into the night.
The beds were not very comfortable.
The wonderful staff really left us with an overall positive view of the hotel however the issues related to sleep would likely keep us from returning. If our plan was to take advantage of the many entertainment options Derry has to offer in the immediate vicinity and return late....would definitely change the consideration.
